New Year Rituals

New year Rituals is an annual event which organizes in each and every pre-school to give a better knowledge about Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April . According to that, all the children participate to this and do and follow rituals and get some ideas about the tradition, belief and history. Before starting the rituals, children worshiped the Buddha. After that with the firecracker sounds New Year dawned to the preschool. Thereafter boiled milk to symbolize the prosperity. After that it was the time for the first meal partaking at avurudu table with New Year foods and at that time, the FLCF coordinator fed each child milk rice. After that children worshiped the teachers giving sheaves of beetles to respect them. Then, the head priest of Seenimodra Jayasumanaramaya temple, Rev. Samithadhaja thero anointed herbal oil on children’s head to wish for a healthy life.
