Welcome to
Friends Lanka Child Foundation
“FRIENDS LANKA CHILD FOUNDATION” (FLCF) is officially registered as a local Non-Governmental Organization, recognized by the Registrar of Companies and the NGO Secretariat under the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development.
Originating from the Sri Lanka Mission of Friends Kinderhilfe International e.V. (FKI), which has been active in Sri Lanka since 2004, FLCF has a history of serving underprivileged children and families affected by the Tsunami. While the decision from FKI’s head office in Germany suggests no new projects under the FKI Sri Lanka Mission, they remain committed to providing funding support as needed. Consequently, the local team of FKI Sri Lanka Mission has transitioned into an independent local NGO, FLCF, leveraging its years of experience in implementing projects in Sri Lanka to embark on new initiatives.
FLCF is confident that its seasoned workforce possesses invaluable experience, enabling the organization to forge robust relationships with local authorities. This dedicated team is poised to establish and nurture FLCF as a sustainable entity, steadfast in its mission to serve impoverished children across Sri Lanka.
The core mission of FLCF is to improve living standards and facilitate access to education for underprivileged children and their families, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds. By focusing on breaking the cycle of poverty, our aim is to empower children through education, providing them with a brighter outlook on life and inspiring them to contribute to a society characterized by justice, freedom, peace, and prosperity in the future.

Testimonials
Andrea, Peter & Victor Blöcher
We are members of FRIENDS for almost 20 years now. An acquaintance told us about the FRIENDS children's aid in Sri Lanka and about Sylvia Merkle's (now Bobay) commitment and her joining the organization after the devastating tsunami. And about the urgent search for sponsors for the many children who were in great need as a result of the disaster and that of their close relatives. And who had no prospect of schooling without financial support. We didn't think twice about becoming members and sponsors of FRIENDS.
Over the years and many child sponsorships, we have gotten to know the organization and the people behind it better and, above all, we have come to appreciate it. To see what can be moved, helped and achieved with relatively low resources, what projects can be set up and with what passion and conviction the entire FRIENDS team commits and works has impressed us more and more over the years.
The convincing work of FRIENDS, the successes and, for us, emotional and beautiful results have made our commitment more and more a matter of the heart, which was further strengthened by our visits to Sri Lanka and the personal contacts to the team.
We are fortunate to have been born into a largely comfortable living situation, and we are thankful to be in a position to support people who were not so fortunate and find themselves in needy situations. And we are thankful that there are people who work so hard for these people in need. With our support we can also give the FRIENDS team the respect and recognition they deserve for their great work.

“For about 15 years we have been supporting the FKI and thence, Friends Lanka Child Foundation. The staff of FRIENDS have drawn us with their commitment to the children, with their zeal, passion and kindness as their spell. We hope to visit Sri Lanka whenever we can to give our support to the organization in the long run, as far as we can.” |

"I am Pushparaj from Pupuressa. I am studying Engineering Technology at the University of Jaffna. My mother passed away in 2018. I have three young - er brothers in my family. My father doesn't have a job and is not looking after my family. As the eldest child of the family, I was finding difficulties with studying and looking after my brothers. I thought of stopping dreaming of academics and my future but to commit to my brothers’ education and finding a job.
Even though I could conduct a few individual tuitions, it was not enough to fulfill all our needs. At that time, I was able to contact the Friends Lanka Child Foundation and got a wonderful opportunity to become a beneficiary student. With the support of Professional Sponsorship (PS) and Relief programs, now I can freely focus on my academics without struggling. Thank you so much Friend Lanka Foundations for this valuable opportunity."
Ramani Kalansooriya
"By 2022, I had added my child to our special needs center in Ambalangoda. My child is in a process under the guidance of our teachers. Meanwhile, I got the opportunity to attend our vocational and livelihood training sessions, which were conducted in the same center. As a result, I learned to make candles and designed new crafts with coconut shells. While encouraging my child into primary education, one-on-one sessions, and
therapies, I too put in extra effort to come to the center and learn something new.
Now I make candles at home and get extra income. With my husband’s support, I pack them and sell them to people. I know this will help my family, and it will make it easier for my child to survive confidently. And I don’t want to give up on any hardship. Thank You Friends Lanka for holding us and supporting us to stand on our own feet."

We have been working with ’FRIENDS‘ organization for about 12 years and have already started to sponsor our 3rd sponsorship child. The money will be used for children and their families who have become orphans. In 2014 & 2015 we visited the projects under FLCF in Sri Lanka and were convinced that our support is put to the best cause. Although Friends Lanka Child Foundation is a small organization, it is amazing how much they have achieved with little money. The whole team of FRIENDS are such wonderful people who fight with passion for the children and people over there |
